Longest-Married Couple Celebrates 86th Anniversary

May 17, 2010

Having some Danish and tea before work, sitting here browsing the net for inspiration for my next article, then it hit me after a long deep conversation about live & love last night with my boyfriend it made me think back about previous issues that couples currently have…which is nobody is keeping it together any longer.

Then while thinking of that I had remembered a previous post that I was about to publish, but opted not to as it was in regards to break ups so i left it in draft for months From Bobby Brown & Whitney Houston, Jenny Mcarthy and Jim Carrey, to Russell Simmons & Kimora Lee, Eva Marcille and Lance Gross…and everybody in between

Deep right?, however further thinking about togetherness and what we as couples go through at times with our loving mates, it hit me that not all things can be perfect, its not always happy, fun, its not always 50%50. Being together is about the complete unity of two people who care so much that they will be there through thick and thin, till death due us part…that meaning doesn’t just stand for marriage it stands for boyfriend and girlfriends too, after all its still a commitment regardless of paperwork or licenses.

Now with all that said and mentioning of breaks ups just when you think that long lasting love was a thing of the past there’s a couple who has been married 86 years, no you have not read that wrong…86 yrs together
wow oh wow! I had an aunt & uncle that passed a few yrs ago who was married for 74 years…at their time of passing she was 88 and he was 96.

Then my father and step mother have been married almost 30 yrs next may, Love runs deeper than we all know and when its real it can last almost forever that never ending torch that keeps us together can be the same flame that tears a couple apart.

Now a days people can barerly keep it toegether for a little while, just look at whats happened with
Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock and Jenna Jameson So ladies and gentlemen, hold on to what you have, while you have it sometimes it gets heated and you might “think” you dont want to be with that person anymore, but could you truly see yourself without them?? Even worse you could leave one situation and fall into an ever worser one.

Happy anniversary wishes to Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher of New Bern, North Carolina, who have been married 86 years this year. The Fishers wed on May 13, 1924 and now hold the Guinness World Record for the longest marriage.

to see the Essence.com article on this couple click the link, just remember nothing worth anything is without great pain and struggle, earths survival depends on the togetherness of a man and a woman or what other fashion a union may be made of…now thats the type of swagg you need!

all great things have stood the test of time

They sure dont make men or women like the use to, but to be honest these men now a days be on some crazy outer limits type stuff…cant move forward…wont do this…dont like that sometimes its almost unbareable. If woman are not right its because we are stressed with bills, kids, chores, school, PMS, weight gain and fatigue

    …whats the mens excuse?

    86, 74, 48, 30

those are all impressive number of yrs – devotion and the true meaning of unity is what that and this couple truly stands for.

…People get with folks for all the wrong reasons, but if your truly down with somebody and love them that will never go away, just like a mother bear loves her cubs.

Thx for the replies everybody, I would love to hear more from people whom are attached currently and looking forward to building something long lasting.

86 years! That is beautiful. Every relationship has hard times, but it depends if both people are willing to learn, move on and use the experience to improve the relationship. People are lazy. People think that the grass is greener on the other side, when usually it isn’t.
